Replacing fat with muscle is always a good move, and you have the added bonus of being able to wear your belt a little tighter. Some simple exercises that help trim the waist are, sit ups, side plank, vertical leg crunches, and reverse crunches. None of these exercises require any extra equipment and can easily be done at home.
